Kindergarten Registration Information
Kindergarten Entrance Age Information
The Connecticut General Assembly voted to change the entrance age requirement for kindergarten beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. Students must turn five on or before September 1st of the current school year to enroll in Kindergarten. The change in the law moves the cutoff date from January 1 to September 1. The goal of this change is to ensure all children are developmentally ready to enter kindergarten and brings Connecticut's entrance age requirement in line with all other states.
For those students who will not turn five until after September 1st in a given school year, RSD 10 has a waiver process in place for families who wish to request their four-year-old child enter Kindergarten when the child turns five after September 1st. The process will include the completion of the waiver form, an assessment form completed by families, an in-person assessment of the student completed by school staff, and a follow-up discussion with the family.
