Welcome Message 

It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as Superintendent of Schools for Region 10. I am deeply grateful to be part of a learning community defined by its commitment to students, its dedicated educators and staff, and the strong partnership of our families and the communities of Burlington and Harwinton. 

Each day across our four schools, I am reminded that the strength of Region 10 is found in its people and in the relationships that connect us. As we continue our work together, we remain focused on creating high-quality learning experiences, supporting the people who make those experiences possible, and ensuring that every student feels known, valued, challenged, and supported. 

There is much to be proud of in Region 10 and much to look forward to. It is a privilege to work alongside our students, staff, families, Board of Education, and community partners as we continue building on our strengths and preparing our students for what comes next—Every Student, Every Day. 

About Dr. Thompson 

Dr. Fran Thompson brings more than 20 years of experience in public education and a leadership style rooted in trust, collaboration, service, and advocacy for all learners. 

Before joining Region 10, Dr. Thompson served as Assistant Superintendent for the Wallingford Public Schools. In that role, he led district-wide efforts in educator evaluation, new teacher induction, and school climate and culture. He also helped design systems to support staff development and strengthen student learning. 

Earlier in his career, Dr. Thompson served as Principal of Jonathan Law High School in Milford for ten years and as Principal of Derby High School before that. A proud Waterbury native and graduate of Sacred Heart High School, he began his career as an English teacher—and later returned to his alma mater as a school leader. His career reflects a deep belief in the power of public education to transform lives and strengthen communities. 

Leadership Philosophy 

Dr. Thompson believes that relationships are at the heart of great schools, and that leadership begins with service. He is committed to a culture where every student feels seen and supported, every educator has the opportunity to learn and grow, and every family is welcomed as a valued partner. 

His leadership is grounded in trust, shared responsibility, high expectations, and the belief that the role of district leadership is to support the people closest to students. Through collaboration, reflection, and a shared commitment to High-Quality Learning, Dr. Thompson believes schools can create the conditions for every student to thrive. 

A Bit More About Fran 

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Thompson is a passionate music lover and former DJ. He is also a lifelong New York Yankees fan and enjoys traveling to the Dominican Republic. He lives in Branford, Connecticut, with his beloved dog, Bobo.
