All freshmen and sophomores will be required to take and pass a formal course in health that will be taught in conjunction with physical education. The Connecticut State Department of Education curriculum guideline on health will be followed.

Physical Education      Level 2      Grades 9,10
Credits: .25      Full Year

The physical education program includes active participation in seasonal competitive and recreational activities. The program is designed to develop fundamental physical skills, coordination, wholesome attitudes, a high standard of conduct, and preparation for leadership in competitive activities as well as cooperative participation in sports, school, and later-life activities. The program aims to aid students in making social and personality adjustments for greater enjoyment, self-expression, and relaxation through group undertakings.

Physical Education Level 2      Grades 11,12

When possible, junior and senior students will select different activities each marking period. The physical education program includes active participation in seasonal competitive, recreational and lifetime activities. The program is designed to provide opportunity for all students to select activities of particular interest. Courses have been developed to provide training and experience beyond traditional skill development. Special consideration will be given to scheduling difficulties and medical limitations.

Developmental and Adaptive Physical Education Level 2      Grades 9,10,11,12  
Credits: .25 (Two periods per week)      Full Year

The developmental and adaptive program is designed for students who need more individualized instruction or wish to work on self-improvement in such areas as low fitness, low motor ability, nutritional deficiencies, and postural abnormalities. The program will also be adapted to students with other special problems, including broken bones, breathing problems and a variety of medical conditions.

Scheduling will be done on an individual basis when requests or referrals are made to the Physical Education Department.

Credits: .0625 (Taken in either grade 11 or grade 12)      One Marking Period

All eleventh and twelfth graders will be required to take and to pass a Health course that follows the Connecticut State Department of Education Health curriculum guidelines. In addition, students in both grades 11and 12 must participate in a seminar day program each year.
