6/11 ATTN: The boys
and girls soccer meeting scheduled for this evening has been
postponed. The reschedule date is Monday the 15th at 6:30
in the auditorium.
6/11 Boys Basketball Announcement: Fran Amara
has been named as the new Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. There
will be a meeting for all players and parents next Wedesday
(June 17th) at 6:30 in the school auditorium. Register

6/9 Boys Volleyball knocked out of Class M
Tournament by Farmington 3-2.
6/8 Alex DiClemente shot a 75 to finish in
a tie for 5th place in the Division III golf championships
as the team took a 14th place finish.
6/8 State Boys Tennis Finals:
#14 Michael Scanlon defeated Evan Sahlman 3-6,7-5,6-3 in the
Class S Second Round

qualifying for the New England Championships which will be

Amy Varsell finished 8th in the 400
(58.13)
Chloe Palma finished 16th in the high jump (4-10.00)
Adrian Ilinski finished 9th in the high jump (5-10.00)
Joe Pasco finished 10th in the pole vault (12-06.00)
Mike Orefice finished 5th in the long jump (21-03.25)
6/6 The #1 & #2 singles girls tennis players
for Lewis Mills traveled to Yale on Saturday & competed
with other top players in an open format. # 2 singles Denise
Perna was defeated by Victoria Druehl of Westhill 8-1. Druehl
went on to play another two rounds that day. #1 Mills singles
player Katie Van Gilst won her first match against Rebecca
Vulcano of Brookfield 8-0. Van Gilst then played Zoe Valella
of Weston and was defeated by the #7 seed by an 8-3 score.
Both Mills players should be congratulated for making the
CIAC individual tournament and for their overall combined
season record of 27-5.
6/6 Evan Sahlman advances to Monday's Third
round of the Class S Boys Tennis Tournament defeating Alex
Lawton of Westbrook 6-0, 6-1. Matt Marzicola was knocked out
by Gregory Frank of Coginchaug 7-6 (2) and 6-4 and Ryan Surveski
was defeated by Lucas Andreika of Weston 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play, Travis Crosby/ Mitch Crosby, Suffield defeated
Cal Simko/ Luis Subirana, Lewis Mills 6-1,6-2 and Daniel Toutoungi/
Adam Geller, Weston defeated Bryce Rudiak/ Steve Soliani,
Lewis Mills
6-0,6-2.
6/6 Softball knocked out in Class M Quarterfinals
by Lauralton Hall 9-0
6/5 Congratulations to Boys Volleyball for
advancing to the Class M Semifinals with a 3-0 victory over
Darien. They will play Farmington on Tuesday at a site still
to be determined.
6/4 Lewis Mills High School has 38 Student-Athletes
honored at 2009 Berkshire League Banquet! Lewis Mills also
awarded it's second Berkshire League Ted Alex Award in three
years! This award recognizes the school who finishes first
in overall success and sportsmanship in the leagues 17 sponsored
sports.

6/3 Congratulations to Amy Varsell for winning
the 400 meters, and also placed 6th in the 200 meters at the
Class M State Meet. This was her 4th consecutive vicotry.
Chloe Palma finished 5th in the high jump. Both girls will
compete at the state open meet on Monday.
Other scorers for the team included Molly Tower (8th in the
800 meters), Amy Neumann (8th in the pole vault), Alyssa Desmarais
(7th in the discus), and the 4x400 meter relay team of Molly
Tower, Amy Varsell, Ashley Gallicchio, and Melinda Noel (7th
place).
Best performances for the season were achieved by Alyssa in
the discus, 96 feet 1 inch, and the 4x100 relay team of Sarah
Morin, Ashley Gallicchio, Jolene Lasota and Abby Erwin (54.77s).
For the boys, senior Mike Orefice won his
third state title, winning the long jump with a leap of 21'-2.5".
Orefice won the long jump at the 2008 outdoor championships
and the 2009 indoor championships making him the first male
athlete to win three state titles at Lewis Mills.
Joe Pasco finished 2nd in the pole vault with a jump of 12'-6"
while teammate Erik Cables cleared 11'-6" to finish 7th.
Adrian Ilinski finished 5th in the high jump with a jump of
5'-10". Orefice, Paco and Ilinski will all compete at
the State Open Meet next Monday afternoon.

In track, the boys team wook 6th place and the girls 4th at
the BL Championships.
Boys: Adrian Ilinski won the high jump with a 6-0 jump, Joe
Pasco jumped a personal best 13 feet to win the pole vault,
Mike Orefice won the long jump (21-7), Mike Orefice took 2nd
in the triple jump (39-11.75)
Girls: Amy Varsell won the 200 (26.57)&
400 (57.96) and also ran in the 4x800 relay (4th place) and
the 4x400 relay (3rd), Amy Neumann won the pole vault (8-6),
Chloe Palma took 2nd in the high jump (5-0), Molly Tower finished
3rd in the 800 (2:25.95).

Press Female Athlete of the Week! Varsell won both the
200 (27.8 seconds) and 400 meters (1:02.76) and ran as a member
of the winning 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams in a tri-meet victory
over NWR and Litchfield last Wednesday.

Cohen named Sixth Recipient of Bohdan M. Kolinsky Memorial
Journalism Scholarship! Kolinsky was the longtime sports editor
of The Hartford Courant. The award will be presented at the
Connecticut Sports Writers Alliance annual Gold Key Dinner
