HEAD COACHING APPLICATION INFORMATION PAGE
General Information:
BOE Philosophy:
The board of education believes individual students will benefit from opportunities to grow physically, intellectually and emotionally through interscholastic and intramural activities. The board will strive to provide students interscholastic competition in a variety of sports, both traditional and non-traditional. These individual and team activities challenge students in competitive environments leading to enhanced individual growth. It is also recognized that a well-organized and well-conducted athletic program has a significant effect on the morale of a student body and is an important factor in promoting positive school-community relations.
Although we are extremely proud of the success of our many programs, we do not condone a “win at all costs” attitude. The purpose of the program is to ensure a positive experience for all students who choose to participate. It is also a goal to provide all student-athletes with an opportunity to learn the importance of ethical behavior, good sportsmanship, positive values, and a realization of their self-worth. The Lewis Mills Athletic Department staff is a professional group that takes great pride in their concern for the welfare of each athlete. They are cognizant of the tremendous influence of their position and strive to instill the highest ideals and character traits in our students.Statement from the Lewis Mills Athletic Department:
At Lewis Mills, we see athletics as the second half of the day. Head coaches are expected to possess and develop that vision which emphasizes the overall growth of the individual as part of a larger whole. Athletics is the second half of the school day and the athletic programs must support the academic development of the student-athletes. We expect coaches to view their programs holistically, demonstrating the importance every athlete brings to the program. Role modeling of older athletes to younger athletes is expected. Each team is required to give back, performing at least one community service project each season. Goal setting with clear expectations as to the student athletes conduct in and out of school along with an emphasis on academic development is also expected. Head coaches are expected to be leaders in this regard, role modeling appropriate behaviors while addressing any negative displays in a timely and appropriate manner.
