The periods of time are reserved for those subject area teaches to use at their discretion. For example, a teacher may assign a reading with some guiding questions for students to answer. The expectation is they are prepared for the next lesson. The student could use the time allotted to work on the task but may also choose to do it later in the day if there is a reason that time is not available. However, there could be time that the teacher wants students to be available for a video lesson. The video lesson will happen during the reserved period of time.

On Fridays, teachers will hold office hours and will be available for a two-hour period between the hours of 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Teachers will communicate the specific time for students. This time can be used by students to check in with teachers to get extra help/interventions.

April 27, 2020 Update:

Har-Bur Distance Learning Plan Adjustments:

-Providing more opportunities for synchronous learning: Each teacher will provide at least one “live” interaction with students each week. This synchronous learning opportunity will increase teacher/student and student/student interaction.

-Enabling the Chat feature in our Microsoft 365 Teams platform to allow for opportunity for direct instruction,  efficient and effective way for teachers to ask and respond to questions, fill the void for social connection created by physical distancing.

-Narrowing the curricular focus of each subject area to specific essential learning/ standards. This will allow our teachers to optimize the time they have with students to focus on the essential skills and content knowledge during the remaining six weeks of school.

-Moving all grade levels 5 through 8 to solely standard based grading. We have removed traditional letter grades from 7th and 8th grades.
