RSD 10 Distance Learning Plan PK – 12

Dear Families and Students of the RSD 10 Community, 

We hope this communication finds you well and that you are maintaining your health in body, mind and spirit. Our Distance Learning Plan has been designed to provide continuity of learning and growth for all our students during these unprecedented times.  While we cannot replicate the typical school daythe educators of RSD 10 at the Elementary, Middle and Secondary levels have worked together to provide opportunities with the following priorities across all grade levels: 

    • Reconnecting and Re-establishing Relationships/Classroom Communities 
    • Re-engagement With a More Structured Teaching & Learning Schedule 
    • Flexibility and Consideration of Family Life and Obligations at Home 
    • Interactive Content and Reciprocal Communication 
    • Collaborative Practices 
    • High Student Engagement Investment in Learning Without Sacrificing Critical Thinking 
    • Choices for Students so Weekly/Daily Activities Are Diverse 
    • The Inclusion of the Arts, Health & Wellness 

The implementation of the RSD 10 Distance Learning Plan begins on March 23, 2020. Our teachers are looking forward to reconnecting with students and the degree of commitment to that effort is outstanding.  In preparation for the greatest possibility of success with the transition to an online learning platformwe surveyed our families to determine technology needs (internet and devices) and responded to expressed needs by 3.20.20.  After building PK – 12 instructional frameworks with teachers, coordinators, the Office of Teaching and Learning and the IT Department; Elementary, Middle and Secondary administrators communicated with families about what to expect come 3.23.20.  

Our community leaders’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been fluid and responsive as needs arise, and the review of the distance learning plan will be the same.  We intend to be mindful of teacher and family feedback once distance learning begins.  Flexibility, respect, and compassion for each other, as we all experience this new delivery method, are components of the plan as well.  We’re all in this together. 

Please take a look at the Elementary, Middle and High School’s overarching distance learning frameworks below.  Specific daily/weekly instructional plans will be communicated by your children’s classroom teachers at a set time each day and we encourage parents/guardians to support their children’s transition by: 

    • (a) reviewing the schedule to create a time of day or routine which can be devoted to learning 

         and works best for your family,  

    • (b) taking a look at when there are virtual check-ins provided by your child’s teacher and encouraging them to connect,  
    • (c) checking in with your child based on their level of self-direction, independence, and organizational needs.
