The primary goal of the English Department is to create literate citizens who develop life-long skills in reading both for information and enjoyment, and who will become effective and creative speakers and writers. A balanced program of thinking, reading, listening, speaking and viewing, integrated within a stimulating environment, will best achieve these ends.
The English Department believes that all students are members of a community of readers, writers, and thinkers. These learners benefit through continual interaction with text, through communication with other people, and in a climate that fosters risk-taking and growth.
Because the English Department believes that reaching students of all levels of ability is vital, teachers tap into multiple intelligences through a variety of means, thus allowing students to demonstrate what they have learned.
