Transportation Systems - Introduction      Level 2      Grades 9,10,11,12

Credits: .50      Half Year

This course provides an introductory overview of the four aspects of transportation: Land, Marine, Air, and Aerospace. The class is a prerequisite of the other transportation studies. Transportation is the movement of people and goods. The various methods will briefly be studied and continued in greater depth in the discipline in which the students wish to concentrate. Students will be evaluated on their class work, tests, and project. A research paper is also possible.

Transportation Systems – Land      Level 2      Grades 9,10,11,12

Credits: .50      Half Year

Prerequisite: Transportation Systems – Introduction

This course provides a greater in-depth study of the modes of land transportation. This unit is organized around the systems concept. Areas of study include but are not limited to pipeline, highway, rail propulsion, and other modes of moving material as well as environmental issues. Students will be evaluated on their class work, tests, and projects. A research paper is also possible.

Transportation Systems – Marine      Level 2      Grades 9,10,11,12

Credits: .50      Half Year

Prerequisite: Transportation Systems – Introduction

This course provides a greater in-depth study of marine transportation. This unit is organized around the systems concept. Areas of study include but are not limited to hull design, navigation, commercial versus recreational craft, propulsion systems materials, and environmental impacts and issues. Students will be evaluated on their class work, tests, and projects. A research paper is also possible.

Transportation Systems – Air      Level 2      Grades 9,10,11,12

Credits: .50      Half Year

Prerequisite: Transportation Systems – Introduction

This course provides a greater in-depth study of the modes of air transportation. This unit is organized around the systems concept. Areas of study include but are not limited to types of air transportation, aircraft classification, pilot certification, airways, facilities, aerodynamics, aircraft control, materials, navigation, and environmental impacts. Aspects of aerospace transportation may also be studied. Students will be evaluated on their class work, tests, and projects. A research paper is also possible.

Technical Drafting      Level 2      Grades 9,10,11,12

Credits: 1.00      Full Year

Technical Drafting is an introductory course in drafting.  Students become familiar with the idea of communicating with pictures.  The course will emphasize technical sketching and computer–aided drafting (CAD) to communicate.  Areas of concentration include: one-view, two-view and three-view drawings, dimensioning, isometric drawings, sectional drawings, and architectural drawings.

Architectural Drafting      Level 2      Grades 9,10,11,12

Credits: 1.00      Full Year

*Prerequisite:  Technical Drafting or permission of instructor

Architectural Drafting builds on the skills acquired in Technical Drafting, concentrating on residential house design.  The course will emphasize technical sketching and computer –aided drafting (CAD) to communicate.  Areas of concentration include: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, detail drawings, area planning.  Students will complete a set of plans for a house, and build a model of their design.

Engineering Drafting      Level 2      Grades 10,11,12

Credits: 1.00      Full Year

*Prerequisite:  Technical Drafting or permission of instructor

Engineering Drafting builds on the skills acquired in Technical Drafting, concentrating on advanced projects.  The course will emphasize technical sketching and computer –aided drafting (CAD) to communicate.  Areas of concentration include: multi-view drawings, sectional drawings, fasteners, auxiliary views, pictorial views, developments, intersections, cams, and/or gears.
