In Wellness, students in grades 9 and 10 are focusing on fitness.  We are preparing our students to take the CT state fitness test in October.  Each year, we test students in cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, core muscular strength and endurance and upper body strength and endurance.

Students in grades 11 and 12 have begun their selective PE classes.  Students had the opportunity to sign up for semester classes of interest.  Courses that we offer are Yoga/Pilates/Tai Chi, weight training, music & movement, adventure PE, team sports, individual sports and games.  Most students were able to receive 1 of their 4 selections.  However, some students may be in a class they did not request due to teaching space, number of sections offered for each selection and class sizes.  Hopefully, everyone will get their choice in the second semester.

Parents in grades 9 and 10 should have received a letter outlining our planned unit schedule.  All unit schedules may be modified due to weather, teaching space availability, teacher attendance, school events, etc.

In our outdoor adventure course, we have added a new element:  The Swinging Tires.  The tires were installed at the end of August and all teachers have received training for use of the tires.  Students in grade 10 will incorporate the swinging tires into their adventure unit.  Students in the selective, Adventure PE course will also be using the new element sometime during the semester.
