At Lewis S. Mills High School we
take great pride in our music department.
We offer a variety of music
courses and activities for the students in grades 9 through 12.
Music appreciation and music theory are offered in the classroom to
all students in the school, regardless of participation in a
performing ensemble. Our performing ensembles include concert choir,
wind ensemble, symphonic band, jazz ensemble and marching band. In
addition, the school has an active Tri-M chapter, which represents
the school to this national music honor society.
The
program is designed to influence the student in a positive way
through the elements of teamwork, pride in themselves as well as
school and community, musical and physical performance, and public
representation of school and community. It is through these aspects
a student is helped to become educationally well-rounded and to
develop a respect for themselves as well as others.
In addition to our regularly
scheduled band and choral performances, the Lewis S. Mills High
School Bands have traveled extensively, and performed and competed
in many different places. They include: Boston, MA; Newport, RI;
New York City; Winchester, VA; South Brunswick, NJ; Orlando, FL;
Washington, DC (where we performed on the steps of the U.S. Capitol
as well as the Lincoln Memorial); San Diego and Anaheim, CA; and the
Canadian cities of Ottawa, Montreal, Niagara Falls and Toronto.
