During Kindergarten we try to read many of the Caldecott Medal winning books. The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children. This is given to an American illustrator for a distinguished picture Book. The children learn to recognize the medal and know the importance of the award winning illustrations. We also read together many of the classics, and a selection of non-fiction titles. Kindergarteners may check out one book a week, when their book is returned, they are able to choose another. The children are exposed to various authors and illustrators Some of our favorites are- David Wiesner , Leo Lionni , Lois Ehlert and Robert McClosky |
