Parent Reference Links

As a cumulating activity after studying about CT this school year, students are busy at work researching either a CT famous person or a tourist attraction. (See links above). They will create a power point presentation or make a travel brochure of a tourist attraction using the school’s computers.  Once completed, parents will be invited to attend the presentations.  Attached are the requirements for the projects.  We look forward to learning about Connecticut’s famous residents and tourist attractions.

CT Person Report

Students researched either a famous CT person or a CT tourist attraction in May.  They created either a power point presentation or a travel brochure.  Students either dressed as their character, or a tour guide and presented their work to their family and classmates.

It was a successful way to end our school year.

Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day, April 22,  our class collected trash from the Lake Garda Playground and surrounding area. Students were quite enthusiastic about helping to beautify the Lake Garda community.  Mr. Choiniere presented them with a certificate for their efforts.

Read Across America

Read Across America Day was celebrated on Monday, March 3rd. Mrs. McGlynn read Dr. Seuss’s last book, Hooray for Diffendoofer Day. Dr. Seuss passed away before he could finish the book.  Based on his story line drafts and sketches, his publisher asked poet Jack Pretlutsy and illustrator Lane Smith, to finish the book.  The student had to take a test and pass or else the school would be shut down and they would have to go to dreary Flobbertown School,  where everyone did everything the same. Fortunately, Diffendoofer Schoool passed the test 10,000,000 %.  We brought in Dr. Seuss books to read together and enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss’s 104th birthday.

Halloween

Scary Halloween delights included a new substitute, Mr. Greggs!  He was the strangest substitute teacher we ever had.  We hope Mrs. McGlynn doesn't get sick again, and we have him!  A frozen hand helped to keep the cider cold during our Halloween snack time.

Thanks to everyone who sent food it for our celebration.

Book Project

Our September book project was titled, "Shopping Spree". Students decorated a shopping bag with a collage of important events from a Nutmeg book and included 8 objects that were important to the story.  The display case across from the Nurse's office contains some of this work.  Stop by and see them!

Our next book project is due October 31st.  It is a triorama based on the mystery book.
