Handwriting

The goal of the Zaner-Bloser handwriting program is to teach students to write legibly.  Students learn that there are four basic line strokes to forming letters and numbers:  vertical lines, horizontal lines, circle lines, and slant lines.  We began the year with practice forming these lines.  Now we have started learning to write numbers and letters, beginning with the easiest letters to form (Ll, Ii, and Tt).  We have also been learning to use the lines on paper (headline, midline, and baseline) as a guide to help us with forming our letters.  Students are encouraged to use good posture when writing and think about how to write a letter based on the strokes they have to make.  Handwriting instruction takes place on a daily basis in our classroom.  A Zaner-Bloser handwriting poster was sent home for your reference earlier in the year, however, if at any time you need another one, please feel free to contact me.
