DESCRIPTIVE WRITING

First graders in Ms. Cragin’s class have learned to “Paint a Picture with Words!” We are working on using elaboration and detail and incorporating descriptions of the five senses into our writing to “bring it to life!”  In the lesson shown below, first graders chose a photograph of a specific location and wrote descriptive paragraphs about it using the five senses.  Then, we posted all of the photographs and took turns sharing our writing  (Author’s Chair).  The rest of the class had to listen carefully to the description to try and figure out which picture was being described.  Our wonderful first grade writers helped us visualize being at the beach, on safari, into the rainforest, and beyond!
