Principal’s Report – Maureen Dodd:

Mrs. Dodd welcomed all.  Stated 532 students enrolled this year. Kindergarten enrollment is 70 children.  The 1st grade is one of the largest with 114 children.  Building changes include an extra room for special education as well as new handicapped access to the upper level of the school.  New teachers were introduced as well as current teachers that were present at the meeting.

Husky High Fives – Megan Mazzei:

Mrs. Mazzei explained the new Husky High Five program and how it was developed.  Last year a committee was formed to look at the current school rules. Findings concluded they had many rules and they were written in adult terms.  Through surveys of staff and students as well as research on other schools the group came up with a set of school wide expectations. The four expectations revolve around:

·      Respect Others

·      Respect Property

·      Be Responsible

·      Be Safe

They then took these expectations and defined what each meant in every area of the school.  Teachers are enforcing the behavioral rules by handing out Husky High Five tickets when they observe a child exhibiting the desired behaviors.

Linked to the High Five program are incentives. If a child earns 25 they will have their name announced on the PA and get a prize from the office. For 100 High Five’s their picture will be taken and posted at school.  200+ High Fives during the year will receive a special T-Shirt. Kids are really excited about this program.  Class teachers are keeping a tally of the number of High Fives.  The school wants to make this a visual program for the children and is asking the PTA for financial support.  They are asking for $1000 to cover the cost for pencils and posters.  The posters will display the Husky Paw Print with the appropriate behavior for the different areas of the school.  They also need volunteer help with coordination of the printing of the posters.

Discussion was opened up to the members. Kathleen Keegan made a motion.  Kim Cavoli seconded.  The motion was voted on and passed
