Phyllis Jones- Physical Education Teacher

Talked about activity logs.  Wellness policy started 4 years ago.  HCS was pilot school.  Created coordinated school health team to create policy.  Meet every other month to discuss.  Activity logs came from standards in state program.  Encourages students to have active healthy lifestyle outside of school.  Piloted activity log last year for grades 2, 3, and 4.  Feedback from last year was that it was too much writing (they had to write down what they were doing).  Now, they are asked to circle the bicycle and put a check in the box when they complete 60 minutes.  Purpose is to establish healthy habits when they are young.

Parents spoke about issue with minutes affecting their child’s grade.  Phyllis spoke to this.  Concern is when they do not see any logs.   They want parents to establish a habit with their children.  Your child’s grade will be negatively affected if you do not hand these in.  Parents feel that it is an invasion of privacy and will make children feel that it was a chore.  They feel that it should not affect the child’s grade.  Parents do not want to have to submit this log.

Phyllis will give them copies of the frameworks.  Liz asked that we put this off until later.
