Cause and effect analysis, becoming acquainted with how enjoyable science actually is, and utilizing the scientific method are learning outcomes of the fifth grade unit, Land and Water. After doing experiments testing erosion of streambed models with variables such as slope and varying amounts of flow, students designed and tested dams. Students will be planting vegetation, and observing how this affects erosion/runoff. Furthermore students will be using observation skills and applying knowledge about erosion control in their everyday lives!
