Har-Bur Reading Center

Mrs. Donna Langer & Mrs. Jean Ann Ward

The Har-Bur Reading Center is available to all students in grades five through eight to help them become proficient readers and writers.

Mrs. Jean Ann Ward, Language Arts Consultant, and Mrs. Donna Langer, Reading Teacher, are supported by two teaching assistants, Mrs. Janet Nardini and Mrs. Sandra Packard.

Students are recommended into the Reading Center classes as a result of standardized testing, CT Mastery Test scores, teacher and Reading Consultant judgment, and at the request of a parent. Any student may come in for short-term assistance or computer use.

Throughout the school day, Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Langer, along with their staff, work in classes with teachers to provide assistance in the areas of reading and writing.

The Reading Center also has scheduled small group and one-to-one instruction of students recommended by the core teams.

The Reading Center provides opportunities for all students to participate in independent reading programs. These programs vary by grade levels and all are invited to join.
