Special Education Services
The transition to Grade 6 presents new challenges for all students. Students use lockers for the first time, and learn a rotating block schedule with six to eight teachers and classes, with assignments for each. When a student has a learning disability, ADHD, or other disability, he or she can successfully meet these challenges with the support of Special Services. Each Special Education student has an Individualized Education Plan with goals specific to his or her needs. Students receive classroom support, as needed, and a Learning Lab class to receive additional assistance in a small group. Some students also receive Reading Intervention, Counseling, Occupational Therapy, or Language Therapy. The Student Support Center is available for students with social-emotional or behavioral needs.
Learning
Lab
Learning Lab class is important in helping students succeed. It provides the extra time and assistance students need in order to meet their individual goals. The purpose of Learning Lab is for students to:
· Learn organization and time management strategies
· Review and clarify assignments, directions, expectations
· Learn study strategies to prepare for tests and quizzes
· Receive extra practice or instruction in small groups
· Conference with a teacher to improve written work
